The new passageway between the kiosk hall and the platform area leads the station into the future

Construction work on the platform area will continue into summer 2026, moving the station toward a smoother future for everyone. Although the old oak doors were impressive, the new accessible sliding doors will serve the needs of the 250,000 daily visitors of Finland’s busiest building far better.

In the meantime, the smoothest route between the platform area and the station is through the doorway next to the new Burger King by tracks 10–11, until the construction is finished and all doors can be opened. Follow the signs and you’ll find your way!

When Eliel Saarinen designed the station in the early 1900s, Helsinki had a population of 100,000. Today, nearly two million people live in the capital region, and yet the station—opening to the four cardinal directions—remains just as functional. The renovation project is a tribute to Saarinen’s timeless vision and, at the same time, an update for a new millennium. All changes are carried out under the supervision of the Finnish Heritage Agency.

What will the renewal bring?

  • For passengers – smoother routes, a more pleasant waiting experience, and better services
  • For city residents – a vibrant hub of urban culture
  • For businesses – improved spaces and visibility
  • For lovers of architecture – preservation of Saarinen’s legacy
  • For partners – a historic development project
  • For future generations – the station will be passed on in as good a condition as it was given to us

Construction may cause temporary inconvenience, but the end result will make the station more accessible, comfortable, and functional for all of us.

Thank you for your cooperation — let’s bring the station into a new era together!
